What are the advantages of SUS420J1 Stainless Steel?
SUS420J1 stainless steel is one of the most popular and widely used types of stainless steel. Its high chromium content gives it excellent corrosion resistance, while its high carbon content makes it ideal for applications where strength and hardness are required.
What are the disadvantages of SUS420J1 Stainless Steel?
While SUS420J1 stainless steel offers excellent hardness and wear resistance, there are a few potential drawbacks to consider. One downside is that it can be susceptible to corrosion in some environments, especially if not properly cared for. Additionally, SUS420J1 is a bit more expensive than other types of stainless steel, so it may not be the best option for those on a budget.
What are the uses of SUS420J1?
SUS420J1 can be used to make parts that are resistant to weak corrosion media and bear loads, such as steam turbine blades, hydraulic valve, bolts, nuts, etc., which are mainly used for parts that require high toughness, certain rust resistance and bear impact loads, such as cutting tools, blades, fasteners, hydraulic valve, thermal cracking and sulfur corrosion resistance equipment, etc., and also can be used to make equipment and components that are resistant to weak corrosion media at normal temperature.
How is SUS420J1 stainless steel heat treated?
SUS420J1 stainless steel is a high carbon martensitic stainless steel. It has high strength, good hardness, wear resistance and good corrosion resistance.
SUS420J1 can be heat treated at various temperatures to produce a wide range of properties. It can be hardened to Rockwell SUS420J1 60 by a small amount of tempering. SUS420J1 can also be annealed at a temperature between 800-900 ℃, or rapidly cooled at about 750 ℃. This will give the steel maximum ductility.
What is the difference between SUS420J1 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel?
1. Different ingredients
SUS420J1 stainless steel containing C 0.16-0.25 Si≤1.00 Mn≤1.00 Cr 12.00-14.00 P≤0.040, S≤0.030
The most important elements in 304 are Ni and Cr, but it is not limited to these two elements. According to the general judgment in the industry, as long as the Ni content is greater than 8% and the Cr content is greater than 18%, it can be considered as 304 stainless steel.
2. Different physical properties
SUS420J1 stainless steel has high strength; excellent machinability and hardening after heat treatment; magnetic; not suitable for harsh corrosive environments.
The density of 304 stainless steel is 7.93 grams per cubic centimeter, also known as 18/8 stainless steel in the industry. High temperature resistance of 800℃, good processing performance and high toughness.
3. Different marking methods
Ferritic and martensitic stainless steels are 400 series, such as 405410443.
Austenitic stainless steels are marked with 200 and 300 series numbers. For example, some common austenitic stainless steels are marked with 201, 304, 316 and 310. The marking methods on the market are 06Cr19Ni10 and SUS304, among which 06Cr19Ni10 generally refers to the national standard production, 304 generally refers to the ASTM standard production, and SUS 304 refers to the Japanese standard production.
4. Different uses
SUS420J1 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and machinability, and is suitable for all kinds of precision machinery, bearings, electrical appliances, equipment, instruments, meters, transportation tools, household appliances, etc. It is mostly used in the manufacture of parts resistant to atmosphere, water vapor, water and oxidative acid corrosion.
304 stainless steel is suitable for food processing, storage and transportation. It has good machinability and weldability. Plate heat exchangers, bellows, household products (first and second class tableware, cabinets, indoor pipes, water heaters, boilers, bathtubs), auto parts (wipers, mufflers, molded products), medical equipment, building materials, chemicals, food industry, Agriculture, ship parts, etc.
